10 min driveOne of the great English estates, and only ten minutes up the road. The Festival of Speed in July and the Revival in September are both spectacular — Richmond Field books up fast around these dates. But there's racing, golf, and things happening at Goodwood throughout the year.

Chichester Festival Theatre
10 min driveOne of England's most respected regional theatres, producing work that regularly transfers to the West End and Broadway. The main house and the smaller Minerva Theatre usually have something worth seeing. It's the kind of place you can often get last-minute tickets for evening performances.

South Downs National Park
On your doorstepThe Downs start right outside the village. Kingley Vale, less than 20 minutes on foot, is one of Europe's finest ancient yew forests. The ridge above Stoughton gives views all the way to the Isle of Wight on a clear day. The Monarch's Way long-distance footpath passes through the valley.

West Wittering Beach
25 min driveA proper sandy beach with dunes, clear water, and views across Chichester Harbour to Hayling Island. Beloved by families, sailors, and kitesurfers. It gets busy in summer but is manageable if you arrive early. East Head, the sand spit at the far end, is worth the walk.

Bosham & Chichester Harbour
5 min driveOne of the most photographed villages in the South of England, and for good reason. Bosham is a working tidal harbour with a Saxon church (in the Bayeux Tapestry), colourful sailing boats, and waterside pubs. The Anchor Bleu is good for lunch. If you're walking, the coastal path runs east towards Chichester.
